Debating classes & holiday camps · Years 1 – 12

A program for every stage of the speaker.

Weekly term classes, holiday camps and trial preparation, taught online or in person by debaters who have competed at the highest level.

In-term classes

Three levels, one standard.

Classes run weekly during school terms. Not sure where your child fits? A free trial class tells us, and them, within an hour.

i.

Beginner

For students with no experience of debating. It begins with a free introductory webinar on the basics.

What they learn

  • Debating rules, team roles and speaking positions
  • Structuring a speech and an argument
  • Projecting the voice and losing filler words
  • Building a case and rebutting an opponent

Best for

Curious first-timers and nervous speakers who need a safe room to start.

ii.

Intermediate

For students who already know the basics and want to sharpen them.

What they learn

  • Practical and principled arguments
  • Ordering rebuttal with clarity
  • Pace, tone and emphasis under pressure
  • Brainstorming quickly in preparation time

Best for

Students preparing for school debating trials or their first competition season.

iii.

Advanced

For students who already debate regularly for their school team.

What they learn

  • Common substantive arguments and winning clashes
  • Micro-structure, integrated rebuttal and macro case structure
  • Global affairs and common topic areas
  • Philosophical approaches to motions

Best for

Representative team hopefuls and students aiming for international tournaments.

Two ways to learn

Questions

Before you enrol.

Can't see your question here? Our team usually replies within one business day.

What makes your classes different?

Our coaches are elite university debaters, hand-picked from leading university debating societies. They teach from resources that are used and recognised around the world.

Which level is right for my child?

Beginner classes suit students with no experience. Intermediate suits students who know the basics, and Advanced is for students already debating for their school team. A free trial class settles it either way.

How much do classes cost?

Zoom classes start from $35 an hour and in-person classes from $40 an hour, both plus GST and paid by term. Holiday program prices vary by camp, and trials are available before you commit.

Why are some classes on Zoom?

Online classes save students travelling across the city after school. They still get plenty of in-person debating at our weekend mini tournaments and holiday camps.

Will this help with school debating trials?

Yes. Our curriculum matches the skills selectors look for in ISDA, Archdale and GPS trials, with a focus on rebuttal structure and first-principles thinking.
